The Soviet all-wheel-drive off-road truck GAZ-66 was developed by engineers at the Gorky Automobile Plant for the needs of the Soviet Army and the national economy. The first vehicles of this brand rolled off the assembly line in 1964. Among the people, the vehicle was nicknamed 'Shishiga.' The GAZ-66 can carry up to 2 tons of cargo in difficult road conditions. The maximum speed on the highway is 90 km/h. Good off-road capability is achieved through even load distribution on the axles, adjustable tire pressure, the use of cam differentials on the front and rear axles, and high ground clearance. During its operation, the truck was repeatedly upgraded. The GAZ-66-11 modification went into production in 1985. The vehicle received a central tire pressure regulation system and modern lighting equipment.Since 1993, a new universal cargo platform without wheel arches, with increased internal dimensions, has been established. It is this version of the 'Shishiga' that is depicted in the model.
