In order to protect Saint Petersburg from the fleet of the coalition of Western powers, a decision was made to build a series of steam gunboats. The first, built by the personal order of the Tsar, was the gunboat "Sterlyad." In September 1854, the ship was launched, and on September 30 of the same year, it was already included in the lists of the Baltic Fleet—thus beginning its service. During the Crimean War, "Sterlyad" participated in almost all naval operations, as it was practically the only steam warship that Russia could deploy against the powerful steam squadron of the allies. In 1869, the ship was removed from the lists, and in 1871 it was decommissioned and scrapped. The model is of a small ship, but it is excellently detailed and complex to assemble. We do not recommend it for beginners or inexperienced modelers. The model contains many small parts and very complex rigging, although the ship’s sail rig is not very complicated. Parts that need to be painted on both sides are printed with double-sided printing.
