HMS Queen of Thanet was a World War I minesweeper, a steamship built in Port Glasgow in 1916. Originally named HMS Melton, it was one of 32 Racecourse-class vessels (also known as the Ascot class). After serving in the Royal Navy, the minesweeper was sold and became a steamship on the Thames. During World War II, the ship was requisitioned by the Royal Navy for its original purpose as a minesweeper. HMS Queen of Thanet took part in the evacuation from Dunkirk in late May and early June 1940, after which the ship was stationed at Granton. After the war, it was again used as a steamship, sailing from Bournemouth and other south coast ports, and then in 1951 it was sent for scrap.
